Randomized clinical trial and follow-up study of cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic versus conventional Nissen fundoplication

چکیده
Study population The study population comprised the patient populations (n=224) included in a published randomised controlled trial (RCT) (Bais et al. 2000, see 'Other Publications of Related Interest' below for bibliographic details) and a follow-up cohort study (reference not given). Patients in the RCT (n=103) either underwent conventional NF or laparoscopic NF. All patients in the follow-up study (n=121) were operated on using laparoscopic NF. The characteristics of the patients were reported in the current study.

Randomized clinical trial and follow-up study of cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic versus conventional Nissen fundoplication.
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF) has essentially replaced its conventional open counterpart (CNF). An economic evaluation of LNF compared with CNF based on prospective data with adequate follow-up is lacking. METHODS Data from two consecutive studies (a randomized clinical trial (RCT) of 57 patients undergoing LNF and 46 undergoing CNF that was terminated prematurely, and a...
متن کاملRandomized clinical trial of laparoscopic total (Nissen) versus posterior partial (Toupet) fundoplication for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease based on preoperative oesophageal manometry.
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic fundoplication is an accepted treatment for symptomatic gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. The aim of this study was to clarify whether total (Nissen) or partial (Toupet) fundoplication is preferable, and whether preoperative oesophageal manometry should be used to determine the degree of fundoplication performed. METHODS Preoperative oesophageal manometry was used to ...
متن کاملSingle-Site Nissen Fundoplication Versus Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication
BACKGROUND Advances in minimally invasive surgery have led to the emergence of single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of SILS Nissen fundoplication and compare its outcomes with traditional laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication. METHODS This is a retrospective study of 33 patients who underwent Nissen fundoplication between January 200...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Nissen fundoplication with prosthetic hiatal closure reduces postoperative intrathoracic wrap herniation: preliminary results of a prospective randomized functional and clinical study.
BACKGROUND Postoperative intrathoracic wrap migration is the most frequent morphological complication after laparoscopic antireflux surgery. Previous authors have studied the use of prosthetic materials for hiatal closure to prevent recurrence of hiatal hernia and/or postoperative intrathoracic wrap herniation. HYPOTHESIS Patients with prosthetic hiatal closure have a higher rate of short-ter...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Nissen fundoplication: cost, morbidity, and outcome compared with open surgery.
We report a retrospective review of all patients undergoing both open and laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication from January 1990 through December 1993. Computer data were reviewed to determine the length of hospital stay, hospital costs, and perioperative complications. Questionnaires were sent to patients undergoing Nissen fundoplication. During the study period, 232 patients underwent Nissen fu...
